These are the fancy-dress swimmers who plunged into Salford Quays' freezing cold waters this morning.
Scores of swimmers signed up to the Uswim event this morning, New Year's Day, to start their years' off with a shock. Among them were hoards of people in fancy dress. They included yellow submarines, lighthouses, and even a Statue of Liberty on the quayside. In what has become a tradition, the hardy souls were raising money for charity.Today's event was the 11th open water swim on New Year's Day at the quays, USwim said. This year, the event supported the British Tinnitus Association and BubbleBecca Pugs, a pug rescue charity.
