The Equalizer 3 news looks bad for Fuqua.

The third film in The Equalizer series, The Equalizer 3 finds protagonist Robert McCall’s placid life in Southern Italy disrupted by his discovery that some of his friends are under the control of the local mafia.
The Equalizer 3 director Fuqua is now being sued for not properly crediting one of the film’s consultants. According to Variety, Fuqua has been sued by collaborator Paul Lozada, who filed a 20-page complaint against the director in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The complaint alleges a breach of oral contract, implied-in-fact contract, common counts and promissory fraud.
The Equalizer 3 Lawsuit Is Not Well-Timed for Fuqua According to Lozada’s claim, the consultant was asked by Fuqua to consult on the accuracy of issues relevant to The Equalizer 3, including the Italian mafia, drug trade, and more. Fuqua allegedly told Lozada that he was “part of the team,” and even that he would be contacted by a Sony Pictures Entertainment employee regarding compensation. Then, Fuqua supposedly cut off contact, sending harsh messages such as, “I don’t Owe You anything” [sic].
Making matters worse, The Equalizer 3 is far from Lozada and Fuqua’s first collaboration. The pair’s consultant-director relationship extends all the way back to Training Day, for which Lozada provided consultation surrounding law enforcement. He also worked alongside Fuqua on the first Equalizer film, thus it makes sense why the creative would be consulted for its latest sequel.
In a time when both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are striking, this news looks especially bad for Fuqua. Lozada may not be a writer nor actor, but if his claims are true, he was vastly taken advantage of on the production of The Equalizer 3. This would unfortunately make him among the list of many film industry professionals who have been taken advantage of by studios and big-name directors, an exploitative reality with which Hollywood is now grappling daily.
