The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.17% rose 57 points, or 0.2%, in afternoon trading Tuesday, but that’s nowhere near enough to turn the Dow positive for the month. The Dow has dropped 1.6% so far in October, and has slumped 2,574 points, or 7.2%, amid a three-month losing streak, according to FactSet data.

The last time the Dow has declined for three-straight months was the three-month stretch that ended March 2020, which was when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.43% has shed 8.8% amid its own three-month losing streak, which is also the longest since March 2020. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.27% has also fallen for three straight months — it has dropped 10.
