The schoolgirl was last seen in November 2003

On November 1, 2003, a 14-year-old girl went out for a day seemingly like any other. She spent time with her sister, chatted to her mum, Karen, and then went up to meet friends.

No further trace of her whereabouts was found after that, though investigations would uncover disturbing evidence of sexual exploitation involving Charlene and other young girls in the seaside resort. During the trial, the jury were played taped conversations in which it was alleged Mr Albattikhi joked that he killed the girl, that she was 'chopped up' and her body had 'gone in the kebabs'. In another recording he was alleged to have said: "I killed her, I killed a girl I was just angry."

"He will go into a pub and will be targeted. He has been called a murderer, a paedophile and accused of pimping out his daughters. He has never done that and there is no evidence that he has ever done that. Jen, who was recently named Investigator of the Year by the Association of British Investigators , has agreed to re-examine Charlene’s case after being impressed with the amount of hard evidence made available by members of the public interested in the case.

Jen said: “I agreed to have a look at it and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Look at it with fresh eyes as if it happened yesterday, not taking anything for granted.
