While Leslie Grace's Batgirl movie was canceled, Barbara Gordon's story can still be saved with the DCU's Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
Although HBO Max's Batgirl movie was canceled despite being in post-production, the DC Universe's newly announced Batman: The Brave and the Bold film has the potential to save Barbara Gordon. Promising to feature a selection of Gotham heroes beyond the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin, the upcoming movie could lay the groundwork for Leslie Grace's Batgirl to live on.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Announced by new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, Batman: The Brave and the Bold was one of the more exciting reveals from Gunn's released video detailing the first chapter of the new DC Universe era entitled "Gods of Monsters".
However, Barbara Gordon's Batgirl is one of Batman's oldest allies, having joined his crusade after Batman's very first Robin who eventually becomes Nightwing. Even after she was paralyzed by the Joker, Barbara was determined to keep helping Batman by becoming Oracle, an expert hacker and information broker who provided invaluable support to the Dark Knight and his sidekicks in the field. After some time had passed, Barbara would eventually regain the use of her legs.
Leslie Grace Can Still Be The Batgirl For The DC Universe Assuming that Barbara Gordon makes an appearance in Batman: The Brave and the Bold either as Batgirl, Oracle, or both, there's only one actress DC Studios should cast. Following the highly controversial debacle that was Warner Bros. canceling Batgirl which was meant to release in 2022, it would be a huge mistake to cast anyone else besides Leslie Grace.
It's currently unknown who and how many Bat-Family members will be showing up in The Brave and the Bold. However, it stands to reason that any that do get an appearance will then have the groundwork laid for them to have their own future movies and/or series on HBO Max. As such, an appearance from Batgirl in the future DCU Batman and Robin movie could give Grace's Barbara Gordon another chance at having her own movie or show.
