The food is a fantastic source of fibre.

Health guru Dr Michael Mosley has revealed the 'posh' breakfast that could be vital in preventing diabetes. The TV expert, best-known for popularising the 5:2 diet, says fibre is both "essential" for our guts, but also for protecting against the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Dr Mosley says one of the best sources of fibre, particularly at breakfast, is an avocado, reports the Mirror. A post on the expert's Fast 800 website reads: "You may know this berry to be a source of healthy fats. "It may come as a surprise that avocados are also a fantastic source of fibre. In fact, one avocado contains around 10g of fibre, which is a third of your daily recommended intake."Other fibre-rich foods that can be incorporated into a balanced diet include a variety of beans such as chickpeas, kidney beans, edamame beans, and even the humble baked bean.

You can also mark off another of your five a day if you much on fibre-packed pears, which are a source of both "soluble and insoluble fibre", according to health experts. They stated: "Their high pectin content has been associated with improved gut health and immune function. Aside from all their gut benefits, pears are also high in folate, niacin and provitamin A, all important vitamins for cellular function, energy production, supporting skin health and wound healing.
