The Avengers have a new New York base. Janet Van Dyne's new bar is a secret hero meet-up spot, but the building itself is also connected to the adventure that gave the team their name - the murder of the Wasp's father, Vernon Van Dyne.

Warning: contains spoilers for Wasp #1!The Avengers have a brand-new headquarters, and it just might be their coolest yet. The Avengers have had a number of bases and headquarters over the years, including the most recent Avengers Mountain. Yet in Wasp #1, the team gets another new base of operations, courtesy of Janet Van Dyne, and it may be their most sophisticated yet, as it is above a swanky, high-class bar.

The issue, written by Al Ewing - drawn by Kasia Nie, colored by K.J. Diaz and lettered by Cory Petit - sees the Wasp open her own bar and club in New York City. She reveals to Jarvis, who is bartending, that she is struggling to come up with a name for the establishment. Jarvis suggests the "Van Dyne Lounge," but the Wasp tells him this bar is not about her, and that she wants to start a VIP lounge for the city’s costumed heroes. Jarvis asks her about the building’s security.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Marvel Introduces The Avengers Lounge Since the first meeting of the Avengers 60 years ago, numerous places have served as their base of operations. Initially, the team met in Tony Stark’s mansion, which was later rechristened “Avengers Mansion.” The team also occupied Avengers Tower for many years; the current incarnation of the team works out of Avengers Mountain, built on the corpse of a Celestial in the Arctic Circle.

The Wasp’s new bar will also serve another, perhaps even more important function: it will help normalize superheroes in New York City once again. The Kingpin’s actions in Devil’s Reign changed the public’s attitude towards its heroes, creating a climate of fear and mistrust. The Wasp’s bar allows patrons to see heroes in a new, more human light, which could go a long way to assuage these fears.
