The Cavs won 104-103 on Tuesday against the Magic in Game 5 of their first-round series.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs can’t stop Paolo Banchero, and Donovan Mitchell can’t find his rhythm. Cleveland’s closer is laboring on a bum knee while Orlando’s superstar sinks silky jumper after silky jumper.
And the Cavs missed so many bodies during the regular season that they added Marcus Morris Sr. in March, but Morris repaid the favor by scoring 12 points during a pivotal Game 5 after playing few meaningful minutes beforehand. The Cavs matched Orlando’s juice, or strategy, or whatever they’ve been lacking, on Tuesday, though. Cleveland came out of halftime composed and, thanks to Max Strus’ best offensive quarter this series , ready to score.Darius Garland averaged 12 points per game in the first four game of this series, and he scored 19 total in two games against the Magic.
But the Cavs need Allen back, no matter how many timely corner 3s Okoro makes or how many tough shots he forces from Banchero. Allen, who is averaging 17 points and almost 14 rebounds per game during the four games he’s played, has been Cleveland’s best player at points of this series. He and Mobley are Cleveland’s best defensive pairing. And if the first trip to Orlando was any indication, the Cavs will need every player possible to win on the road.
