‘That’s the only difference’: Flames’ Ritchie explains early season scoring success

In the lead-up to Tuesday’s clash with the Seattle Kraken at the Saddledome, Ritchie was again being quizzed about his early-season surge. Heading into Tuesday’s action around the NHL, the 29-year-old had tickled as much twine as Auston Matthews, the reigning winner of the Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy, and other established marksmen such as Nikita Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon and Mark Stone.
He averages less than 10:00 of ice time per night. He has joked with reporters that he is on PP3. In other words, he’s usually watching from the bench when his squad is on the man-advantage. Ritchie, for example, piled up 41 goals in 53 outings in his last dance in the Ontario Hockey League. His teammates will tell you that he can really rip it.
