The fundraiser for The Alex initially had a $25,000 goal, but that was bumped to $40,000 after the first target quickly fell. Farkas said donations will remain open online at thealex.ca/25peaks for the next few days, and he expects the goal will be reached by Monday. Farkas’s mountain mission follows his 4,300-kilometre trek of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2022, when he raised $225,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary.He rejected criticisms that the public fundraisers are positioning the 2019 mayoral election runner-up for a return to politics. Farkas said he has received offers to run for nominations with both the UCP and the federal conservatives, but turned them down.
