Thanks to Long Shot, it may be time to admit Seth Rogen is a believable and possibly perfect romantic lead via nparts

The actor has starred in numerous romantic-comedies in the past decade, and each time a similar question is imposed on the audience: How could Rogen possibly land a Katherine Heigl or a Rose Byrne or a Michelle Williams?

In his latest film, Long Shot, directed by The Night Before‘s Jonathan Levine, we see Rogen romance the statuesque Charlize Theron. The entire gist of the movie is that the two of them getting together would be – in any other universe – unheard of. He plays Fred, a firebrand journalist, and she plays Charlotte, the U.S. Secretary of State who enlists him as a speechwriter when she begins a presidential campaign.

As Secretary of State, Charlotte doesn’t have a lot of time to date, and has a tendency to be intimidating. Fred is appropriately daunted at first, but as she begins to reveal more intimate details while they work together, the chemistry between the two builds. Eventually to the point that a romance is, honestly, believable.

Since 2011’s Young Adult, Theron’s been overdue for recognition of her comic timing. In one scene from Long Shot, we have the pleasure of watching her handle a possible terrorist situation while high . But she balances her comedic sensibilities with an ability to remain remarkably endearing, much in the way she was in last year’s underrated drama Tully.
