His exploits didn’t go unnoticed as he caught the eye of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who handed him his first call-up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. “You might have the talent but if you don’t work hard some things will lack here and there. But if you match talent with hard work, then I believe that you are going to get somewhere.”
While Mbatha has clearly heeded Hunt’s advice at Pirates, as he’s a regular in coach Jose Riveiro’s team, it will take some time before he establishes himself at Bafana.
