Thailand's birthrate fell from at least one million to 502,107 in 2022, and is likely to be below 500,000 this year, said Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, the director-general of the Department of Health.

By 2036, the country would be a hyper-aged society if the trend continues, with senior citizens making up 30 per cent of its population. Recent measures included the opening of more nurseries, improved rights to maternity and paternity leave, work-from-home policies and flexible working hours.
