Teyana Taylor takes on arguably the most emotional role of her career in A Thousand and One

She began work on emotional drama A Thousand and One the following year but was still dealing with the aftermath of pregnancy. It’s an emotionally-charged drama which naturally would take its toll on Teyana, 32, at the best of times. Will Catlett stars alongside Teyana as her on-screen husband Lucky However, she was already going through her own personal struggle and playing Inez actually helped her overcome her mental health issues.

Teyana added how she found it emancipating finding an outlet for ‘the things [she] had been holding in [and] different battles that [she] had been quietly fighting’. ‘We’ve seen and heard things about women harming their babies, or not wanting to be around them or harming themselves and these are real things… I’ve never been the person to go as far as having suicidal thoughts but I’m just saying, I want to spread awareness to it because post-partum depression is very real.’

A Thousand and One sees Teyana’s on-screen son Terry played by three actors, who portray the youngster at different stages of his life – as a pre-teen, a boy and an older teenager. It was an eye-opening experience for the star as, while she is a mother of two young girls, seeing the teenage years up close was enlightening if not a little scary. She added: ‘The thing that threw me through a loop was… I had never dealt with a kid talking back to me and getting slick out the mouth.
