Texas Space Commission names South Texas-native Norman Garza Jr. as its first executive director
The Texas Space Commission has named South Texas native Norman Garza Jr. to be its first executive director. In the role, he’ll be responsible for executive oversight of the newly formed commission, which is receiving $350 million in state funding to promote innovation in civil, commercial and military aerospace activity.

Born in Harlingen, Garza graduated from Pleasanton High School and earned a bachelor’s from St. Edward’s University in Austin, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Greg Abbott at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where the new body will be based. Of the $350 million the Space Commission is receiving, $200 million will go to Texas A&M to build a home for the commission next to Johnson Space Center.
