Texas schools are giving parents DNA kits to help identify their children in emergencies

The move, coming just months after the Uvalde school shooting, has sparked backlash from parents, teachers and gun control advocates.

In a debate against Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke, Abbott defended his administration’s response to Uvalde and addressed the criticism, arguing the state “didn’t need a special session” to address the issue.
