A Texas man is facing federal and state charges after admitting to having sexual contact with a 14-year-old Alabama boy but says he thought the child was 18, according to records.

A Texas man is accused of traveling to Alabama after meeting a teen boy on Snapchat and luring him to a Hoover hotel for illicit sex.

Stanley was booked into the Jefferson County Jail July 6 and released midday Friday into federal custody. Stanley then traveled to Alabama and lured the teen to the Embassy Suites in Hoover under the guise there was going to be a party with girls in attendances, according to federal charging documents.

In the meantime, according to records, the boy’s mother realized he had not taken his cell phone with him, so she went to the movie theater to take it to him and discovered he wasn’t there. She then began searching for him and gained access to his Snapchat messages.
