Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown opts out of Alamo Bowl to prepare for NFL draft
Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown announced he is declaring for the NFL draft and will not play in the Alamo Bowl against Washington.AUSTIN — After five years, Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is ready to move on.
The super senior on Sunday announced he is declaring for the NFL draft and will not play in what would have been his final collegiate game, the Alamo Bowl against No. 12 Washington on Dec. 29 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. “After taking the time to pray about my future, it's now the time in my journey to fulfill another dream, playing in the NFL,” Overshown said in a statement. “Thus, I have decided to opt-out of the bowl game and declare for the 2023 NFL draft. I am humbled and excited for this opportunity.”
A proud native of Arp who donned a black cowboy hat before most games, Overshown was part of a star-studded 2018 signing class. 247Sports graded Overshown as a five-star recruit and one of the nation’s top six safeties along with classmates Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster. But after spending his first two seasons struggling to ascend the depth chart, Overshown and then-coach Tom Herman’s staff decided a switch to linebacker would better suit his skill set.
