That's the largest numeric growth in the U.S. in that period. Florida ranked second, growing by an estimated 416,754. No other state's increase topped 150,000.
Texas saw the fourth-largest growth as a percentage of population, growing 1.6 percent, trailing Florida , Idaho and South Carolina . South Dakota and Montana followed Texas. Of the 10 largest states, California, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan lost population since the 2020 census, according to estimates, and Texas, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina grew.
The total U.S. population increased by 0.4 percent, or 1,256,003, in 2022, according to the Census Bureau. International migration was the largest driver of growth, as migration patterns returned to"pre-pandemic levels," the bureau wrote. Meanwhile, positive natural change grew the population by 245,080.
