Lawmakers will vote on approving additional funding to build a Texas-Mexico border wall and make it a state crime for migrants who enter the state illegally.

AUSTIN — Migrants who enter the state without proper documentation could be charged with a crime and also be ordered to go back to Mexico by state police under one of several proposals the Texas House will debate and vote on Wednesday.
Also on the agenda is a bill that would approvean additional $1.5 billion for construction and maintenance of a Texas-Mexico border wall and hardening the penalties for people who try to smuggle migrants into the state. Gov. Greg Abbott tasked lawmakers with sending the proposals to his desk in this 30-day session that is mainly focused on whether lawmakers will approve a bill that allows for public money to go toward private school tuition.
