Just hours before Hamas launched a vicious attack against Israel and its citizens, a Texas Tribune news crew captured a photo of white supremacist and Nazi symp
athizer Nick Fuentes in Fort Worth to meet with the leader of Defend Texas Liberty. The political action committee funds Texas Republicans, including Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and State Attorney General Ken Paxton.
In a statement on X, Phelan also said, "At a time when we are witnessing the heinous attacks on our Israeli allies by Hamas terrorists, the most egregious assault on Jewish lives since the Holocaust, Jonathan Stickland, the president of Defend Texas Liberty PAC, fraternized with a notorious anti-Semitic."
Phelan says he has not accepted any money from Defend Texas Liberty, but that's not the case for Lieutenant Governor Patrick. The group contributed $3 million to his campaign and while Patrick condemned Fuentes, he did not disavow Defend Texas Liberty, or address returning the money. But Patrick attacked Phelan saying "for anyone to try to use these invectives for their own political gain is beyond contempt". Patrick said, "I am calling on Dade Phelan to resign his position.
Defend Texas Liberty also paid for campaign fliers supporting Phelan's opponent in next March's Republican primary, David Covey.
