“I’ve been on the high school side for a while where I was able to encourage, facilitate and help a lot of kids reach their goals and dreams of getting to the collegiate level,” Fenner said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for that time and all I was able to do in leading a high school program. That prepared me for a position like this. Now, I’m looking forward to having the chance to do it from the other side, learning and helping with the process on the next level.
Fenner served as LBJ's interim head coach throughout most of the 2017 season as Jackson battled cancer. He was named the Jaguars' next head coach in the wake of Jackson's death on Dec. 13, 2017.“So we spent a lot of time together and he developed that respect for me just knowledge for the game and being able to understand the concepts and really just being a solid person."
