Texas' Douglas Hodo rounds second to third base in the first inning during an NCAA College World Series baseball game against Texas A&M, Sunday, June 19, 2022, in Omaha, Neb. OMAHA, Neb. — Two Texas fans asked a Texas A&M fan to take their picture in front of the statue celebrating college baseball outside Charles Schwab Field.
A&M wound up with the last laugh, too, in defeating UT 10-2 and eliminating the Longhorns from the College World Series. The Aggies advance to on Tuesday face the loser of Oklahoma-Notre Dame, which played late Sunday night in a winners’ bracket game. The Longhorns were the first of the eight CWS teams sent packing, in their first meeting against the Aggies in Omaha in the programs’ history.
A&M beat UT relying on a formula that carried the Aggies for much of what developed into a memorable season, regardless of what happens from here: the comeback. The Longhorns led 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning before the Aggies got rolling in the 90-degree heat along the Missouri River. The Aggies received a strong outing from starting pitcher Micah Dallas, who allowed two runs on six hits while walking two over five innings. Dallas also beat UT last year while pitching for Texas Tech.
