There were a few tweaks to the final terms between the Texans and Browns when their blockbuster trade involving quarterback Deshaun Watson was made official by the NFL on Monday. Houston will also receive one of Cleveland’s fourth-round draft picks this year, and instead of sending the Browns their fifth-round pick in 2024, they’ll instead send a sixth-round pick for that year along with Watson.
The Texans now have gained six total picks in their trade with the Browns. Houston also received Cleveland’s first-round picks in 2022, 2023 and 2024, plus the Browns’ 2023 third-round pick and 2024 fourth-round pick. The deal is the largest ever for any NFL quarterback, an exchange general manager Nick Caserio negotiated while navigating Watson’s no-trade clause. The second-year executive will now use the draft capital to reinforce the new regime’s efforts to sculpt the rebuilding franchise in their own image.
