At the end of the third quarter, Tesla and Hyundai remain locked in a tight race for the title of highest-volume brand under the federal Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program, as both automakers breezed past the 10,000-vehicle mark for 2022.
Hyundai shipped a blend of about 1,000 battery-electric Konas and Ioniq 5s, plus nearly 100 Tucson and Sante Fe plug-in hybrids, for total deliveries of 1,095 vehicles eligible for iZEV during the month.
Totals are based on the date the iZEV claim is submitted to Transport Canada, which occurs after the vehicle has been delivered to the consumer and the incentive has been applied at the point-of-sale.Eligible deliveries of the Ford Mach E dropped by more than half in September, sliding to 199 from 462 in August. Nevertheless, qualifying shipments of the compact crossover, which gained entry into the iZEV program in April, climbed to over 1,000 year-to-date.
Eligible deliveries of the Toyota Rav4 were up by nearly two-thirds, climbing to 193 from 117 a month earlier. Shipments of the Hyundai Tucson and BMW 330e, meantime, stalled in September. Eligible deliveries of the respective models fell to 77 and 63 in September, from 192 and 132 in August.Eligible deliveries across Canada slid to 5,682 in September after hitting a 2022 high of nearly 7,000 in August.
