Tesco is coming!
Tesco is set to build its first store in Darwen on land which had been earmarked for a new Co-op supermarket.
In the latest twist in the saga Tesco has now confirmed to LancsLive it is building a new store on the site. Work has already begun to level the land which was formerly occupied by the now demolished Hollins Grove Liberal Club.Permission was granted for a retail store on the land despite six objections from neighbours on the grounds of access, traffic, parking and noise. The approval included plans for 16 car parking spaces and opening hours of 7am until 10pm every day.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We are working with a property developer to open a new Express store in Darwen later this year. We’re looking forward to serving the local community and will keep them updated on our progress and an opening date.”
