Tesco has put forward plans for changes to a Nottingham store in response to online shopping. The chain's supermarket on Top Valley Way in Top Valley may soon see changes to its car park as a result of a new click and collect space being created.
The click and collect service would enable customers to order items and then collect them from the shop at the selected time. At Tesco, customers' groceries are kept in a temperature-controlled storage unit, with the buyer then signing an electronic delivery note to sign before taking the products home.
Planners for Tesco said the new click and collect was needed to "cater [for] the increase in demand for online shopping and delivery". To make room for the new area, the store's car park will be rearranged.The existing click and collect van bay and parking will be replaced with standard parking bays. Bollards and a small canopy will also be erected in the new zone to protect staff and customers, as well as a new zebra crossing.
In a planning document it was explained these alterations would not impact delivery drivers. The planning application is pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
