Price on Saturday announced on Instagram that he underwent "emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a saddle clot that was entering both of my lungs" back in April.
Price added that he's retiring immediately "as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk." A center, Price last played in 2022 for Arizona. He was drafted by Cincinnati in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also played for the New York Giants and spent last season the Dallas' practice squad.
Price, 29, played high school football at Austintown Fitch near Youngstown, and redshirted his first year at Ohio State in 2013. He would then set the OSU record for consecutive starts, starting all 55 career games from 2014-2017. He was a redshirt freshman on the Buckeyes' 2014 national championship team.
He played guard those first three seasons before moving to center during his senior season of 2017, when he won the Rimington Trophy, awarded every year to the best center in college football.
