Clifton Murray of The Tenors, who performed for the Queen on several occasions, remembers a nerve-racking request from one of her aides to sing God Save the Queen at a lunch

Clifton Murray of The Tenors performed for the Queen on several occasions, having a chance to speak with her each time.“We can all learn something from her grace and her calmness under pressure.”He was also grateful to have been invited to perform, along with the RCMP Musical Ride, as Canadian representatives at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant at Windsor Castle in 2012.

Among the songs they sang was Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, at the Queen’s request. “She said it was one of her favourite songs.”It was only after the phone call ended that it sank in to Murray and the others that they didn’t really know the anthem. They used the taxi ride to the event to practise a four-part arrangement, over and over.“She was extraordinary, loved music and was interested in our lives,” Murray said. “She lived a long and inspiring life and the world will miss her.
