Temu, an online marketplace, is currently running a giveaway offering customers £50 in exchange for new signups.
While consumer experts at Which? have urged people to be wary of how the app is using your data, according to the Daily Record. The Times also previously reported that Temu has been accused of using malware in its app to harvest the data of users. The rules for the giveaway state: "A member must provide and verify their PayPal account and, in some cases, their mobile phone number to receive cash. A member must sign in to their PayPal account that is in the same country/region in which the member is located in order to withdraw cash rewards."
"Temu gathers user information solely for the purpose of delivering our service and to enhance customer experience. We do not sell user information." The Daily Record reports a spokesperson also also confirmed that Google stated it had removed the Pinduoduo app - alongside apps including Tencent and Kuaishou - because it had violated Google's policy. The apps have not been relisted.
