“We wish to report that the construction of Residential Temporary Units has started. Contractors are on site in iLembe District, Ugu and eThekwini – having started on Friday in line with the commitment we made. We are finalising the assessment of some sites in Durban in terms of their suitability for construction.We must hasten to point out that this is a moving target.
The R1 billion relief funds set aside is not nearly enough to address the trail of devastation left behind by the heavy downpour and floods, the premier added. The largest expenditure on rehabilitation will come from the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa infrastructure, which will need R940 billion, followed by expenditure on transport which is over R6 billion.
