Yesterday he was jailed for a total of three years and nine months at Liverpool Crown Court. An investigation into Afzal's online activities was led by CTPNW and supported by Lancashire Constabulary after he was found to be posting extremist related material on social media. In June last year, Afzal was arrested and a number of electronic devices were seized from his home address.
Investigators were then able to link a number of social media accounts to Afzal that were found to contain a large amount of extremist material deemed to encourage terrorism. In October 2022, Afzal was re-arrested on suspicion of collecting and disseminating terrorist material but refused to answer any questions during his interview.
