Team SA squad rocked by ‘enforced’ changes ahead of Commonwealth Games

Kapp carried the team in the drawn one-off test which started the all-format tour of England earlier this month. Her 193 runs were key, playing a huge part in forcing a draw. She scored 147 runs in the three-match ODI series, though it was in vain as England easily won the series and embarrassed South Africa 3-0, winning all three matches with big margins. But it could have been more embarrassing without Kapp’s contributions.

The teams are split into two groups of four, with the top two in each group qualifying for the semifinals. The teams finishing top in their group will play against those placed second in the other group, with the winners of the semifinals reaching the final. The losers of the semifinals will face off in a third-place play-off for the bronze medal, while gold and silver medallists will be determined in the final on August 7.

Hosts England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa are in group A, while Australia, Barbados, India and Pakistan form group B. Meanwhile, other enforced changes in the 230-strong Team SA squad include star sprinter Luxolo Adams, who has withdrawn due to fatigue. The 200m specialist was not replaced. Hammer thrower Alan Cummings has been added to the athletics squad as a late replacement.
