TORONTO — Team Tracy Fleury locked up a playoff spot in the Players’ Championship after improving to a 3-1 round-robin record.

Team Fleury called upon Edmonton’s Taylor McDonald to spare at second this week with Liz Fyfe planning to have her second baby. McDonald, who played with Winnipeg’s Team Alli Flaxey this season, also served as Fleury’s alternate earlier this year at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The Players’ Championship is the sixth event and fourth major of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season and carries a $30,000 prize for the winning men’s and women’s teams. Team Fleury is also sixth in the Pinty’s Cup standings and in the race to finish in the top four to cash in a bonus.

“I love playing in this event,” McDonald said. “We’re sad to not be here this year. The fact that Team Fleury had confidence in me to come in and fill in for Liz and fill her shoes is really important and kind of them.”
