Team Chelsea is a volunteer group that works, mostly in Durham Region, to rescue abandoned dogs, cats and other pets
And some were beyond help when found.“We were looking for one dog. And everywhere we looked for her, we saw other animals — an injured hawk, an owl that needed help, other cats and dogs, diseased pets still wearing collars and harnesses.“It is amazing, the number of animals out there that need help.”The team recently went to Kawartha Lakes to rescue a dog that had been seen in the area for four or five days, an abandoned dog, “waiting for his people.
“Although some dogs do travel,” said Johnston, “and that’s why it’s so important to microchip an animal.” “Many times the dogs are seniors, the vet bills are coming, people think it’s easier to just dump the dog. Or sometimes it’s that a marriage has broken up and someone abandons the dog.”
