Teachers are furious at Matt Hancock and Sir Gavin Williamson after leaked WhatsApp messages revealed they called them a “bunch of absolute arses” and accused them of looking for an “excuse” not to work during the Covid pandemic AlannahFrancis1 reports:
The National Education Union’s joint general secretary Dr Mary Bousted tweeted: “Why am I utterly unsurprised to now have it absolutely confirmed that Gavin Williamson was unfit to be Secretary of State for Education.”
According to the newspaper, Mr Hancock messaged the then education secretary on 1 October 2020, to congratulate him on his decision to delay A-level exams for a few weeks.Sir Gavin responded: “I know they really really do just hate work.” However teachers and teaching unions have disputed this and said the former education secretary’s comments prove he was not suitable for the role.
