Phaneuf was fired shortly after the former student gave a statement to Ottawa police on Feb. 4, 2021. He was charged with a handful of child-sex crimes — including sexual exploitation and child porn — but has now been acquitted because the police investigation, adopted by the Crown, failed to establish that the alleged crimes happened before the student’s 18th birthday.Article content
