They called for an investigation into the post, written in Zulu, and allegedly posted by a teacher at a primary school near Pietermaritzburg. Ram Maharaj, president of the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha, said the post was patently racist, discriminatory, divisive and potentially incited violence. “It is shocking that an educator does not know that the Indian population of South Africa consists of Hindus, Muslims and Christians.
“Religious studies is part of life skills, which is an integral and essential component of the school curriculum. This multi-faith model is aimed at inculcating understanding and respect for people of all religions.”
