Taxi fares could be set to rise in Blackpool with drivers seeking an average increase of almost nine per cent as they face higher costs to stay on the road.
BLTOA, which represents hackney drivers who drive the black cabs which can be flagged down, says maintenance, fuel and insurance costs have all risen for drivers who last had a fare increase in September 2021. The council’s public protection sub-committee is due to consider the request at its meeting on Tuesday January 17, with a report saying: “The trading standards and licensing manager does not consider the proposals to be unreasonable in the present economic climate.
