It started when police were called about a pair of intoxicated youths wandering in and out of traffic on Jacklin Road in Langford

A taxi driver is being lauded by West Shore RCMP for helping with a case involving a pair of intoxicated youths.

Police issued a certificate of appreciation to Verrinder Bharmota for his kindness to the youths while he was assisting an officer. It started on June 13 when police were called about a pair of intoxicated youths wandering in and out of traffic on Jacklin Road in Langford. Const. Rob Renner was among the officers who attended and realized that the two, a boy and a girl, were in no condition to care for themselves and needed to be taken to their guardians.

The boy was transported by police, but the girl began to have an anxiety attack. After she was assessed by B.C. Emergency Health Services, it was determined that the presence of police and paramedics was contributing to her condition.Bharmota showed up in his cab and helped paramedics get the girl inside, which took 10 to 15 minutes because of her condition, police said.“The youth had no money to pay for the taxi and I offered to pay for it myself,” Renner said.
