After a first round playoff exit with the Maple Leafs, John Tavares is representing Canada at the world championships.
John Tavares, Mark Stone and Matt Murray headline a group of 22 players who will represent Canada at the upcoming world hockey championships in Slovakia.
Hockey Canada announced the roster Monday as the Canadians look to deliver their first gold medal since 2016. “It’s always a special opportunity when you get the call to represent your country on the international stage,” said Buffalo Sabres GM Jason Botterill, who assembled the roster alongside Ron Francis and Ron Hextall. “This roster is a mix of youth and veterans who will help lead the way in this short-term competition.”
Canada’s roster includes seven players who have previously played for Canada at the world championships and 16 who represented Canada at the world junior championships. Four players have never worn the maple leaf at any level of competition. The Canadians open the tournament on May 10 against Finland. They also play Denmark, Britain, France, Germany, Slovakia and the United States in the preliminary round.
