The Straits Times reported that Tan, 75, launched his campaign in a media conference at Copthorne King’s Hotel, on the theme of “Bring back trust, give us hope”.

Accompanied by his wife Tay Siew Hong, Tan said during the media conference that he intends to play an active role in carrying out the two key duties of the president. The two key duties are: the use and investment of the reserves, and the approval of recommendations of those to be appointed into the top levels of the public service.
