The Africa Climate Week saw the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) urge African Parliaments to prioritise climate action for future prosperity.
“As AGNES, we urge our Parliaments in West Africa to ensure that financial resources correspond to the activities and actions outlined in the NDCs.
Wamukoya further highlighted the vital role of Parliamentarians in understanding the vulnerabilities in their constituencies and ensuring climate actions benefit local communities.In his keynote speech, Abubakar Sulaiman underscored the importance of climate change legislation to achieve inclusive growth and sustainable development in West Africa.
Sulaiman urged greater engagement with parliaments to enhance legislators' knowledge of climate change science, policy and actions, ultimately promoting good governance and climate justice:“While Africa has made progress in climate negotiations, West African countries need to expedite climate change legislation."
