Brodie declared himself back in game shape after his first full practice with the team and will await medical clearance to take to the ice Sunday.

The two sit beside each other at the team’s practice facility at the Ford Performance Centre, and as Brodie started to take his equipment off, Rielly didn’t even wait for a question to be asked before he said “it would be absolutely huge” to get Brodie back.

Murray was to get more tests on Saturday, and the Leafs will call up a goalie in time for Sunday’s game. Meanwhile the team went with two practice goalies, giving Ilya Samsonov a much-needed day off. “Obviously he increases our depth greatly,” Keefe said of Brodie. “He’s a vital piece of our defence corps. It slots everybody else in well and allows us to spread out the minutes. So yeah definitely a welcome addition of course.”

“I know it’s going to come eventually. It’s been too long. So hopefully when it comes, they come in bunches. But I’ve just got to keep working.” Brodie has been a workhorse throughout most of his career — and certainly in his two-plus seasons with the Leafs. Injuries have been rare.
