Sympathy for Boris Johnson as Lancs MPs abstain from House of Commons vote

EastLancashire MP Sir Jake Berry expressed sympathy for Boris Johnson during the Parliamentary debate on the damning privileges committee report on his conduct.

Mr Evans said he was barred from voting or commenting on the report as he had to remain impartial as deputy speaker of the Commons. Miss Britcliffe said she abstained as she felt the proposed sanction was ‘unduly harsh’ and Mr Johnson had already quit Parliament.

“The former Prime Minister cannot be held responsible for what people thought he may have meant; if the report is to hold any water, he should be held responsible for what he said.”
