The sword wielded by Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart has sold for £60,000 after an auction bidding war in the US.
Following a bidding war at Propstore’s entertainment auction in Los Angeles, it fetched the final price. Auctioneers said at some time the original blade was removed, possibly for a specific shot, but has since been restored. At the end of the medieval epic, Wallace’s friend Hamish hurls the sword on to the battlefield to inspire soldiers after Robert the Bruce vows to continue his legacy.
