Researchers analyzed more than two decades of data from almost 137,000 people .

The findings were stronger in women than men and people who were already overweight or obese compared to those who were normal weight.Dr. Holly Lofton, director of the medical weight management program at NYU Langone Health, has seen similar results in her patients.Lofton applauded the researchers for the large number of participants and the length of time those participants were followed.

“Think about it,” said Lofton, who was not associated with the new study. “A fruit is fiber, water, vitamins, minerals and natural sugars. When you turn it into juice, it’s like taking vitamins and minerals and drinking Kool-Aid afterwards.” Dr. Michelle Thompson, medical director of the UPMC Lifestyle Medicine in Pittsburgh, said the study’s overall message is that people should be eating real food instead of processed foods.

Researchers reveal different photocatalytic process of Cr(VI) on cellulose- and lignin-rich biocharResearchers reveal different photocatalytic process of Cr(VI) on cellulose- and lignin-rich biocharAs much as 300 to 500 billion tons of biochar are reported to be in soil, sediment and aquatic habitats in China. The discovery of photocatalytic activity of biochar opens up a new frontier in understanding how this substance affects and regulates geochemical processes related to key environmental elements. However, the biomass sources and pyrolysis temperatures can significantly affect the biochar structure, leading to substantial variability.

Researchers create formula for first synthetic sugarcane molasses with fully reproducible compositionResearchers create formula for first synthetic sugarcane molasses with fully reproducible compositionMolasses, a broad term used to describe concentrated sugarcane or sugarbeet juice solutions after removal of sucrose crystals, are an industrial byproduct of the raw sugar production process. Natural molasses have variable compositions that are not entirely known. This knowledge gap is a hindrance to both scientific research and industry, where molasses are used in several processes, including production of fuel ethanol from molasses by fermentation with brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae).

Researchers describe advances in mass spectrometry analysis to improve identification of glycopeptidesResearchers describe advances in mass spectrometry analysis to improve identification of glycopeptidesGlycosylation is the attachment of carbohydrates to the backbone of a protein through an enzymatic reaction. It plays a critical role in determining protein structure, function and stability. A protein that is glycosylated is known as a glycoprotein. The two most common types of protein glycosylation are known as N-glycosylation and O-glycosylation.
