An initial investigation indicates the 81-year-old driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal before her SUV crashed into Famous Footwear in Sugar House on Saturday, injuring three other people.
A Buick Enclave crashed into a Famous Footwear in The Commons shopping center in Sugar House on the afternoon of Saturday, July 2, 2022, trapping a woman underneath it and injuring two others who were in the store — a woman who is 21 weeks pregnant and her 7-year-old daughter. Police believe the woman, 81, who was driving the SUV mistook the gas pedal for the brake.Two women and a 7-year-old girl were injured Saturday afternoon when an SUV crashed into a Famous Footwear store in Sugar House.
One woman was trapped under the Buick Enclave after its driver, an 81-year-old woman, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the shoe store, located in The Commons shopping center at 1170 E. 2100 South. The trapped woman was extricated by Salt Lake City Fire’s Heavy Rescue Squad and taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she is in critical condition.
The other woman, who is 21 weeks pregnant, and her 7-year-old daughter had minor injuries and were taken to a hospital by a family member.
