A suspected robber has been shot after he allegedly tried to stab an armed response officer in Durban. ECRNewswatch

Emer-G-Med paramedics' Kyle van Reenen says the incident happened on Cowey Road in Morningside on Monday morning."The man was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

"Reports from the scene are that the man was attempting an armed robbery when an armed reaction officer intervened. The suspect allegedly lunged at the officer with a knife attempting to stab him. "The armed officer fired a shot in defence of his life, wounding the suspect. The reaction officer was not injured in the ordeal."
