Ryan Cunneen again refused to show up to a College Park courtroom on Monday and would not address the justice of the peace by phone.
The man accused of randomly shoving an 89-year-old woman to the ground, killing her, in the heart of downtown Toronto has once again refused to appear in court for a bail hearing.
Ryan Cunneen, 37, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of manslaughter and has been in custody since his arrest on Jan. 20. On Monday, Cunneen refused to show up to a College Park courtroom in person and would not address the justice of the peace by phone.According to police, Cunneen is accused of shoving the 89-year-old woman on a Yonge Street sidewalk, near King Street, in an “unprovoked” attack in broad daylight around 11:40 a.m. on Jan. 20.
The victim “sustained serious injuries to her face and head” and died at the scene, Acting Insp. Craig Young said at the time. Cunneen was arrested nearby on Richmond Street later that afternoon.Cunneen made a brief court appearance last Tuesday, when his charges wereCunneen will continue to be detained until his next bail proceeding.
He is also accused of throwing a brick through the window of a business near Church Street and Front street.
